Are you haunted by the dearly departed? Has a ghost hunt gone wrong, resulting in a supernatural stalker? Do you wake up at night with the feeling that someone or something is watching you? If yes, you might want to attend this psychic self defense class.
Deb Bowen thinks that paranormal reality shows like Ghost Adventures suck. Not because they're not entertaining (let's be honest, Zak Bagans really believes he's fighting/being molested by invisible monsters.. what's not to love?), but because she insists that intruding into haunted places and yelling at ghosts will entice them to follow you home.
Bowen, a social worker by trade, is also a psychic "sensitive" who hosts regular psychic training sessions at the Poplar Grove Plantation in Wilmington, North Carolina, sessions that teach you how to mentally fight off the influence of wandering spirits. Her first rule is a simple one:
"Don't say nasty things to the ghosts. They have feelings, too."
Bowen claims that she got her gifts from her mother, who "spoke to folks on the 'other side' all the time", and that it wasn't until the 1980's that she felt she could "come out the psychic closet" and start training people to combat spirits.. and even vampires. But not the blood drinking, sleep-in-a-coffin type.. the kind that ruin your day at work.
"We encounter people like this every day," Bowen told the Star News. "They just drain our energy. When you leave those people, you think, 'Lord, I'm exhausted.'?"
Unfortunately, the one thing Bowen hasn't revealed is what to do in the event you get slimed. Maybe she's just saving that one for the course.
If you think you're in need of some psychic defense training, the regular classes start back up at the Poplar Grove Plantation this March, but if you can't wait, you can join in on a new class being taught at the local McAlister's Deli in Wilmington, North Carolina on Friday, January 24 at 6:30PM. Ticket's are $5, a steal for paranormal protection.Roadtrippers, a great resource for anyone interested in travel.
