Five Celebs Who Call Sarasota, Florida, Home

Ask any resident of Sarasota, Florida, and they'll tell you that prolific horror writer Stephen King has a beach home nearby. But there are other celebrities with homes in Sarasota besides the King. The warm weather, lack of paparazzi and cheap(er) real estate are all prime reasons for America's biggest stars to own real estate on Florida's gulf coast. Below are the five most recognizable names that call Sarasota (second) home.

5. Jerry Springer

Did you know that Jerry Springer was the mayor of Cincinnati from 1977-1978? Did you know that The Jerry Springer Show is still making new episodes? It's been picked up for it's 25th season this year! Apparently, when Jerry Springer isn't filming his show in Connecticut or attending Yankees games in New York, he has a home on Bird Key, an island in Sarasota. According to a local paper, he's been seen dining in downtown Sarasota from time to time.

4. Brian Johnson

The lead singer of AC/DC (since 1980) has a home on Bird Key with a guitar-shaped pool in the backyard and a 1928 Bentley Vanden Plas Le Mans Tourer in the garage. He's one of the few celebrities to call Sarasota home year-round.

3. Joe Perry

The lead guitarist for Aerosmith has a home on Longboat Key with his wife. He's been spotted walking around St. Armand's circle and participating in beach clean ups. In addition to his Aerosmith performances and publicity, his latest project is called Hollywood Vampires, a band he created with Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp.

2. Ron White

Stand up comedian and charter member of the Blue Collar Comedy tour spends a lot of time in Sarasota with this wife and his good friend, Brian Johnson (see above). They golf, listen to loud music and send their wives on cruises together. In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, he said, "We love Sarasota specifically."

1. Stephen King

The author of every scary thing that's ever happened has a $8.9 million mansion on Casey Key. Though his home state of Maine is used most famously as a setting in his stories, Sarasota has inspired the location of Duma Key, the titular island featured in King's 2008 bestseller. He's been seen all over Sarasota, from movie theaters and bookstores to Red Sox spring training baseball games.

Honorable mentions: Rosie O'Donnell had a house on Casey Key until May 2015. Actress Jane Lynch had a Sarasota home until her divorce in 2014.

Asia Dekle studied media arts at Brigham Young University and runs a professional writing business from her home in Sarasota, Florida. She enjoys exploring local beaches, museums and other points of interest so readers know what's fun and unique about her home town. She also loves to sing, dance, and read.‚Äč
