Celebrating the Fourth of July in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania


Pittsburgh loves fireworks. We relish the fireworks after an Andrew McCutchen home run blast to centerfield at PNC Park but there is truly something amazing about the Fourth of July at Point State Park on the Three Rivers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So, if you are looking for an abundance of red, white and blue Independence Day celebrations that boom, crackle and pop, look no further. Check out these citywide and greater Pittsburgh area events that are sure to go patriotic during the long 4th of July weekend!

Start with An American Celebration: In Honor of Our Servicemen and Women at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland on Friday, July 1, 2016. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra lead by Assistant Conductor Andres Franco will celebrate America and honor our active and retired service men and women with a concert of patriotic music.

The official fireworks celebration of the city of Pittsburgh happens on the 4th of July at the EQT Flashes of Freedom fireworks show over the skies of Point State Park. The fireworks extravaganza is recognized as one of the top 10 Fourth of July displays nationwide. All day events include local entertainment on the main stage along with food vendors and plenty of patriotic activities for the whole family.

Take a personal role in honoring America at the 2016 Independence Day Flag Folding Ceremony at the Senator John Heinz Regional History Center. The ceremony takes place on July 4, 2016 at 12:00 pm. Learn more about how you can join local veterans and museum patrons to celebrate freedom.

For a living history perspective visit the Fort Pitt Museum and Block House on July 4th. Be there around noon for the flag raising ceremony and hear Carnegie Mellon University graduate Jake Churilla sing the National Anthem.

How about the 3rd Annual Little Miss Firecracker Patriotic Pageant for a bit of Americana? The pageant is part of Ellwood City's 36th Annual Summer Festival happening July 1 - 3. Independence Day fireworks go off on the night of July 3rd.
