72 Hours in Orange County Over Labor Day Weekend

A weekend in Orange County should always include good food and the beach. Everything else is optional, but Labor Day provides a bevy of entertainment. Watch fireworks shoot off from the beach of your choosing and make sure to choose one or all of these fun activities to make it a full weekend!

September 2

Annual Blue Whale migration patterns bring thousands of whales off the coast of Newport Beach and this weekend is a perfect time to book a cruise that brings you up close to not only whales but also dolphins.

Head to Blackmarket Bakery for some coffee and treats while you read. I personally recommend the Chocolate Hazelnut Twist. This bakery is my absolute favorite in town.

Rent a bike and cruise around Balboa Island. Bring a picnic and then stop at Dad's for a frozen chocolate banana covered in almost anything you can imagine. My favorite comes covered in toasted coconut and sprinkles.

September 3-4

Happening through the 4th, Long Beach New Blues Festival hosts acts like the Chase Walker Band, The Delgado Brothers, Ray Goren and Teddy Lee Hooker on multiple stages during this fest held every year over Labor Day weekend in El Dorado Park.

And make sure you make some time for the beach. Bring a frisbee, go rent a surfboard and take a class, or just close your eyes and let the sound of the ocean lull you to sleep. Don't forget sunblock.

Finish off your day with fish tacos at Slapfish at Huntington Beach before watching the fireworks. Huge chucks of fish fried and then drizzled with lime and hugged in fresh slaw.
