Celebrate National Burger Day in Tampa

Tampa may be a melting pot of various food cultures, but burgers are still a favorite for locals. Events like the Carrollwood Burger Festival and the Burger Showdown attracts countless meat-loving fans. With this love of big portions of meat, we must pay homage to National Burger Day.

When you ask who makes the best burger, you will get a variety of responses. From nationwide chains to local independent restaurants, everyone has a favorite and their reasons are typically different from one another.

While we love the consistency of going to a restaurant chain, there is something more decadent about going to a greasy spoon diner or location off the beaten path. So when National Burger Day arrives on August 27th, we are here to help you celebrate the food holiday.

Here are some local favorites many don't want you to know about, because we can be selfish foodies, but each of these places are worth the drive and visit on your path to finding what you think is the "Best Burger" in Tampa.

Danny's All-American Diner & Dairy Bar

While Danny's is known for its Cuban sandwiches, Reubens and other diner treats, many locals visit Danny's for the burgers. Featured on Diners, Drive-Thru and Dives, Danny shows the world what his small kitchen near I-75 and Martin Luther King Jr Blvd can cook up. He and Guy even created the Guy Fieri's Triple D Triple Play. Juicy burgers prepared in so many ways and seasoned to perfection is why there is usually a line to grab one, but it is worth the wait. Can we say, "Call Ahead?" (My personal favorite is the Foul Burger. Who knew a chicken sandwich could make you forget about beef?)

EATS! American Grill

Voted as the "Best Burger in the Bay", among other awards at the Burger Showdown this year, we had to include EATS! and their burgers in this must-try list. Known for its trip around America menu, basically the best foods of various cities in America, EATS! does not disappoint with the classic burger. If you feel guilty about diving into a large burger, grab the Vincent Jackson burger which donates a $1 of the burger price to the non-profit, Action 83 Foundation that aids military families and the health of children.

Drama Burger

Drama Burger calls itself the boutique burger place from a faraway land. You can't get more dramatic than that, right? Well, their burger selection is pretty unique, to say the least. Known for their pastrami burger, they do offer other interesting sandwich selections like a chorizo burger or you can orde a lamb burger. You can be as traditional or inspirational as you want at their restaurant. Traditional fries or giant, and I do mean giant, onion rings are great accompaniments to their burgers.

Engine No 9

While this one isn't in Tampa, I think we can squeeze in a St. Pete location to this list. When people are willing to cross the bridge for a great burger and it makes at Best Burgers in 50 States List, then you should include it in the National Burger Day article, right? With burgers named the Wine-O, Alice in Pain and the Chubby Duck, people are raving over the creative combinations.
