Labor Day Road Trip Within 100 Miles of Rochester, NY

One of the least celebrated holidays in the United States would have to be Labor Day, but it is indeed a public holiday and an important day to remember. Honoring the labor movement, the Labor Day weekend should be celebrated in just the opposite way by not working at all and by having fun with your family. Taking a road trip with the family is great fun and will undoubtedly be one to remember. Pack the family up in the car, bring some overnight gear, and head to the New York State Fair this Labor Day. Of course, you will need to make a couple of stops along the way to make this an even more memorable road trip.

Day One, Morning: September 4

Get the family up and get them moving. You want to have plenty of time to enjoy the trip with them. Make sure that they have everything that they need and get them in the car. Stop for breakfast along the way and be sure to stop for those important bathroom breaks. Hopefully, just one stop will do it since you are not traveling too far. It doesn't matter though because you are not in a hurry. This will be a road trip with no-stress.

Day One, Afternoon: September 4

After having breakfast and driving for a little bit you will arrive at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, NY. Who doesn't like the zoo, right? This stop is sure to make everyone happy. Watching the antics of the monkeys and other zoo animals will definitely bring some smiles and laughs to your family's faces. In addition to the zoo animals, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo offers educational programs for kids and adults. Prices are reasonable and you can stop in the Jungle Café to grab a bite to eat at lunchtime. Once the zoo closes you will only need to drive a few miles to enjoy your evening at the Holiday Inn Express Syracuse Fairgrounds. Let the kids splash around in the indoor heated pool while the adults relax in the whirlpool. You deserve to celebrate not working on this Labor Day road trip. Go ahead, relax. After the pool, whirlpool, and having a good meal at a local restaurant, it is time to get ready for the next day. Time to sleep!

Day Two, Labor Day: September 5

Happy Labor Day! It's time for the New York State Fair. Because it is Labor Day the New York State Fair is honoring all those who work hard for the United States of America. All adult admission tickets are only one dollar per each adult and all of the rides in the Wade Shows Midway are also only one dollar per ride. All those who are in support of labor can meet at gate four at 10:00 a.m. and join the march to Chevy Court where you can participate in their Labor Day rally. Don't forget to put on your red, white, and blue today. After the rally you can check out the exhibits, ride the rides, play some games, and eat some awesome fair food. At 6:00 p.m. a performance by Chicago and then some spectacular fireworks will complete the evening. Get everyone back in the car and drive back home. They will be exhausted and will likely sleep the ride home. The best part about going home is that you are within 100 miles, so it will be a breeze.
