Top 10 Bars to Watch the Longhorns Play in Austin

The beginning of the school year is almost upon us, and everyone knows what that means. Yes, it is a chance to escape from the endless chatter of your kids. But it also means college football season is around the corner. As anyone worth their BBQ salt rub knows, football is the state religion in Texas. Here are the best places to watch the Longhorns play in Austin.

1. Porch It Up
Looking for a great way to get above the bustle of game day? If you are, swing over to local favorite The Tavern (pictured). The historic inn features 46 TVs and fantastic porch overlooking busy North Lamar Avenue. It's the perfect ambiance to prepare for a UT victory.

2. Something Football Something *In German*
As the temperatures fall in Texas, watching football outdoors becomes a less fiery option. Scholz Garten is one of the historical homes for Longhorn boosters. With an open and airy indoor (for the hot ones) and a lovely backyard biergarten (for the not ones), fans can follow all the action while surrounded by their peers.

3. Training Day
If you're looking for an out-of-the-ordinary spot to sip a pint while you watch the game, check out Donn's Depot. Moments from campus, the eclectic pub is built from antique railroad cars and components and features a long patio and a relaxed dive bar interior.

4. Downtown for UT and H-Town
Pay no mind to the Houston, Texas-favoring Lavaca Street Bar on Saturdays. College day is when they put aside their preference for Austin's big brother to the southeast. They offer Skee-Ball distractions between games and serve up a UT-bone steak plate that'll remind you why UTA is known as the Longhorns.

5. Southside Suds
If your neighborhood falls near the southeast side of town, you'll still have a few fun options for your football-watching fever. The Draft Pick rests beneath the AMLI South Shores complex (if you lived there, you'd already be home). They keep a wide selection of regional brews on tap and boast about having the largest HD screen in Texas.

6. Hipper Surroundings?
Headed to trendy Rainey Street for a brew? The local favorite flavor for catching the big game is Bar 96. Their sunlit interior is perfect for hot summer days, while the cooler months are ideal for sprawling out on their expansive patios. Those choosing to relax outdoors have nothing to worry about, though, because TV screens are scattered both the inside and outside for a prime viewing experience.

7. Round up Your Posse
UT fans and students have been heading to Posse East for all the Longhorn action since it opened its doors in 1971. A sample of hearty pub food will greet you, as well as a jovial ambiance towards your fellow boosters on game day. NFL fans can also take advantage of their all-day Sunday happy hour.

8. Are You a Winner?
Champions isn't exactly a well-kept secret, but the sports bar is hidden inside the downtown Marriott. With a host of tapped bevvies available, you can catch all the sizzling gridiron action while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of a fine hotel.

9. The Bar formerly Known as Cuatro's
West-siders are in luck. Local favorite Cuatro's transitioned into new local favorite Tap 24. On the edge of West Campus, UT fanatics can pack in for the fun on game day with all their fellow students. Watch the 'Horns kick some tail on their massive TVs and choose from hot dogs, burgers, and a varied drink menu.

10. Make Haste to Game Day
Those folks living down Manor Road can also find a great supply of Saturday libations at Haymaker. The long, tall Texas bar features piping hot bratwurst and sausages, as well as pints and well drink specials on Saturdays and Sundays.
