Things to do in Tampa When Your Flight is Delayed

It happens to flyers. The dreaded delayed flight.

It is always helpful to learn about delays prior to arriving at the airport. For those of us who get the advanced notice of a severely delayed flight at the Tampa International Airport, we are lucky we have a few options in the area to pass the time away.

Thankfully the area around the airport has really built up. Not only do you have the option of shopping at one mall, but two. WestShore Plaza and International Plaza and Bay Street give those who may have a little more space in their suitcase a place to grab last minute gifts for friends and family back home. With major popular anchor and other retail stores and small independent ones, both malls are a great last minute stop to the airport.

Every type of food you could possibly want is near the airport. However, most people if they are visiting, they want a taste of the seafood or Spanish and Cuban food. Thankfully you can find both near the airport. Mitchell's Fish Market is adjacent to WestShore Mall which is super convenient if you want grouper and some Old Navy flip flops. You can actually grab Spanish food inside of the Tampa International Airport at one of the popular local Columbia Restaurants.

Drink on the Beach

Whiskey Joe's sits on the beach and is the perfect spot to watch others swim, jet ski and play in the sand. Enjoy the outdoor patio or go out to their beach front where a band could be playing live music. Great tropical drinks and appetizers are a great way to get what your airline is not serving.

Of course, the airport offers some food choices, but with the construction going on right now, if you know your flight is delayed, at least you have these options while waiting for your flight.
