Where to Find Rare Pokemon in Poughkeepsie, NY

If you're looking for rare Pokemon in the Hudson Valley, Poughkeepsie is one of the best places to be. Here are a few of the places in Poughkeepsie that have reported the most sightings of uncommon and rare Pokemon.

Walkway Over the Hudson

If you've been playing Pokemon Go for a while, you've surely heard about the popularity of the Walkway Over the Hudson, the longest footbridge in the world, and one of the best places in the area for Pokestops, lures, and meeting fellow Pokemon Go players. There have also been reports of trainers finding some great uncommon and rare Pokemon here, including Magnemite, Raichu, and Scyther. The walkway is open every day from 7am until sunset.

Dutchess Community College

Dutchess Community College (DCC) is a popular Pokemon Go destination due to its high volume of Pokestops and the popularity of the game among DCC students. When you visit, you're almost guaranteed to see a ton of other Pokemon trainers, and there are a number of places where you can hit multiple Pokestops without even moving. There have also been reports of people finding uncommon and rare Pokemon there, including Blastoise, Poliwrath, and Cubone. Just make sure you leave when the campus closes at 10pm if you're not a student.

Bowdoin Park

Bowdoin Park, located behind the Poughkeepsie Galleria on Sheafe Road is technically in Wappinger's Falls, but it's close enough to the Poughkeepsie town line that we'll let that slide. Trainers report that it is home to a Growlithe nest. The only downside to this location is that cell service can be dodgy, especially if you have Verizon. The upside is that Bowdoin Park is home to a really sweet playground, so if you have children with you, it will be a fun day whether you have cell service or not.

Gamestop

The parking lot of the Poughkeepsie Gamestop is not just a frequent meet-up spot for local trainers. It also has a tendency to spawn more than just Weedles. There have been reports of people finding Pikachu, Electabuzz, Meowth, and more. Plus, this spot is conveniently close to the Galleria Mall, where many other uncommon and rare Pokemon have been caught.

Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall

The Poughkeepsie Galleria seems to be a mecca of Pokemon activity. Trainers have reported finding Dratini near Ruby Tuesday, Machop by Regal Cinemas, and Electabuzz in the parking lot. While you're there, don't forget to stop in at Radio Shack for a portable charger. They are known to give 10% discount to Pokemon trainers. There is also a popular Pokestop at the entrance to the food court that almost always has a lure on it. Check it out!
