Best Venues to Watch Local Bands in Grand Rapids

Local music abounds in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and there are a variety of venues where you can catch local bands. There are some larger venues, like The Intersection, where you can catch a local band opening for some national acts, but instead of focusing on the larger of the venues, here is a look at some of the smaller options you have for catching some of Grand Rapids' best local bands of all genres.

Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill

Tip Top is a locally owned and much loved bar and music venue in Grand Rapids. Not only do they host local bands, but they also bring in national acts, as well as comedy acts. Come for a drink, enjoy a meal, and stay for some music. Tip Top offers shows of varying cover charges, from free and up. You can follow them on Facebook for the latest music info, and you can even sometimes find coupons there.

The Pyramid Scheme

Much like Tip Top, The Pyramid Scheme is another locally owned and operated local music venue that also caters to regional acts from time to time. Not only do they offer a great selection of beer and hard cider, but you can also partake in some pinball, and they even have a free pinball night. The music venue is in the back, so that you can chose to simply hang out and drink while shooting some pinball or go to the back for some live tunes.

Mulligan's Pub

Around a decade ago Mulligan's Pub was simply a pub. A nice local watering hole in which to have a beer and maybe shoot some pool on their two tables. The only music you'd partake in was that available on the digital jukebox. However, they decided to expand, and they took over the back area of the old Intersection, where the stage was located for this former local music venue. Now they have music at least three nights a week, hosting many local music bands, and some from around the state of Michigan.

Rocky's Bar And Grill

Whether you want to partake in some live music over the weekend, swing in on a Tuesday night for some open mic night, or have a delicious burger and fries, Rocky's is the place to go. If local music means more to you than just checking out bands, you may want to check out Friday nights upstairs at Rocky's for music spun by DJ Colin Clive (best known as a member of the ska band Mustard Plug).

Quinn And Tuites Irish Pub

You might think an Irish Pub would simply be filled with the sounds of old Irish tunes, but you would be mistaken here. Quinn and Tuites is a popular local music venue in Grand Rapids. They cater to all types of music, even heavy metal (if you can believe that. Best of all? Enjoy some Irish beer and cider while you partake in the great music this city has to offer.
