Best Venues to Watch Local Bands in Lafayette, LA

Music in Lafayette cannot be considered an entity unto itself. Music is so deep-rooted in the culture, it is rarely just listened to. Where there is music, there is usually also food and dancing. This does not mean enjoying music for music's sake is not possible. It just means people enjoy music in their own way – listening, dancing and/or with dinner. These are a few venues where you can sit and enjoy the music.

Artmosphere Bistro

If music is in your blood, you'll find music six nights a week at Artmosphere Bistro. Their motto is, they "live and breathe music". Tuesday is karaoke – here is the place to sing your heart out. Wednesday is Songwriters Night/Open Mic – you may hear the next Grammy winner. Other nights you will find local bands playing various music including Cajun, Funk, Folk, Zydeco, Jazz and R&B. In the mix you may find touring bands from time to time.

Blue Moon Saloon and Guesthouse

While the guesthouse came first, the saloon has made them famous. One of the standing events is the Wednesday Cajun Jam which is open to any and all skill levels. Come play or come listen and maybe dance a little. Other nights you will find varied music including R&B, Zydeco, Progressive, Swamp Pop, Cajun, and Soul with bands from outside the area thrown in the mix from time to time. If you stay too long and play too much, the guesthouse has overnight accommodations.

Laurie Rials

Feed and Seed

This is a converted warehouse with a wooden dance floor, stage, bar and seating areas. Don't expect to sit when you visit, most people stand around talking and listening to the music and of course dancing. The music ranges from dance music of Cajun, zydeco, country and others to listening music of jazz. One genre heard at the Feed and Seed is a futuristic take on reggae. First Sundays usually means Stop The Clock. Put your boots on and get ready for western swing – music from the golden age. Bands play generally Saturday and/or Sunday.

Route 92 Bar

This is a sports bar with a music venue – there are pool tables and a music stage. Friday and Saturday nights you will find live bands at Route 92 in Youngsville. Every genre of music can be found here from Cajun to Punk and everything in-between.

Murphy's Law Sports Bar and Grill

There may be TVs all around, but when the music starts no one wants to watch sports. The sporting event is the live music covering many genres. There may be a trio or full band with horns rocking Murphy's. It does not matter, the music is local and good listening.

Check each venue's website for times and bands before heading out for a night of music.
