Top Five Ways To Really Experience Grand Rapids

Excitement abounds on a daily basis in the city of Grand Rapids. There is always something to do here, you just need only to take a look around. You can peruse the city's website to find out what she has to offer you, or you can pick up one of the numerous local magazines (like Women's Lifestyle, Revue, or On The Town) and easily find things to do, whether it's a weekday or the weekend.

A few of the most popular, and possibly even adventurous, things to do while you are in Grand Rapids, include many outdoor activities that will show you nature, art, and even send you on a great adventure or two.

See Art From Around The World

ArtPrize comes each year to Grand Rapids, this year running from September 21 to October 9. During this time downtown Grand Rapids is turned into one giant art museum where you can see art from all over the world. Artists of all mediums pay for the chance to win a monetary prize, and let people from all over see their art, live and up close. ArtPrize draws in people from all over the world, even just to walk around and look at the art that is entered. Literally hundreds of thousands of people stroll through Grand Rapids during this two and a half week event.

Take A Hike

There are unlimited options when it comes to places to hike, or take a walk, in Grand Rapids. You can stroll around downtown, take a walk through Ah-Nab-Awen Park and enjoy the Grand River, or you can even head to Blandford Nature Center where you can walk through the trees, learn about wildlife and nature, and enjoy the fresh air of nature. There are many paths, and much to see.

Fishing The Grand

If you like the excitement of fishing, take an adventure along the Grand River, and do some fishing. There are many parks along the river you can fish from. Catch anything from steelhead to carp. Whether you shore fish or want to go out in a boat, the Grand has the fishing adventure you want just waiting for you.

Look To The Skies

There are an average of 200 planes that take off from the Gerald R. Ford International Airport, or land there, on a daily basis. If you want to see them flying overhead, which can be a pretty exciting thing to watch, you can get the best view at the observatory area located on Kraft Ave. It is open from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., daily.

Go Geocaching

Last, but not least, take a geocaching adventure. If you have a smartphone with GPS, a taste for adventure, and like to spot things in hidden areas, this is the fun you're looking for. You can always look for geocaches (take something to leave behind and a pen to write your names in the log book) while you are hunting for Pokemon too!
