5 Adventurous Experiences in New York City

New York City is full of wonderful cultural activities. There are amazing museums, trendy restaurants, and Broadway shows. There are designer boutiques, several symphony orchestras, lots of jazz, opera, and ballet. But even if none of these things are your cup of tea, even if you prefer exciting outdoor adventures, NYC is still the place for you. Here's why: there is actually a plethora of opportunities for adventurous experiences in the Big Apple, with everything from swimming in the New York Harbor to cycling where Olympic trials were held.

The following five are my top picks for anyone looking for an adventurous experience in New York:

1. Kayak around Manhattan
The Manhattan Kayak Company offers sightseeing by kayak or paddleboard for people of all levels. They even offer evening tours so you can see for yourself how magical the city looks from the water at night.

2. Swim near the Statue of Liberty
Urban Swim organizes and annual swim from the Statue of Liberty to the Freedom Tower in downtown Manhattan, asserting that "this swim is dedicated to celebrating the freedom of the American people, and to the memory of those that died and served on September 11, 2001."

3. Surf at Rockaway Beach
Rockaway Beach in Queens has miles of clean sand beaches and wonderful waves for those interested in surfing. While you're in the area, stop by the Rockaway Beach Surf Club for a bite to eat or celebratory cocktail.

4. Race at the Kissena Velodrome
If you love track cycling and have never raced on a velodrome before, head over to the Kissena Velodrome, which features a 400-meter asphalt track and stadium seating. Built for the 1964 Olympic trials, it's still used often and is open for weekly races.

5. Try Trapeze School
Trapeze School New York offers you the chance to fly through the air with amazing views of Manhattan and the Hudson River.
