5 Things to do in New York City When Your Flight is Delayed

One of the most annoying things to find out when trying to catch a flight out of New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is that your flight has been delayed. Cue daunting music here, right? But sometimes a delayed flight can mean more than just sitting on the chair and staring out into the distance with nothing else to do. The next time your flight is delayed at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, try doing one if not all of these five things.

Get a Slice of Pizza from Gabby's

This one is for out-of-town visitors, but this place can still be explored by the homegrown New Yorker too. You can't be in New York and not have pizza, so before you fly out of the big apple on your delayed flight, stop in at this pizzeria and grab a slice that has been dubbed the best pizza in Queens. Some even say the best in all of New York. Their prices can be on the pricey side, but for quality, the extra dollars and cents are worth it. They accept credit and debit cards, but if you can, bring cash.

Pick up A Book from Hudson's Booksellers

Located right in JFK is Hudson's Booksellers where you can pick up a copy of the latest release in your favorite genre. They also sell magazines if you prefer catching up on celebrity gossip, the latest fashion trends, or whatever your interests are.

Grab Some Food In The Food Court... or Wine

Remember a time when flying coach yielded you at least a sandwich during your flight? Things have changed a bit with travelers only getting little bags of snacks unless you swipe your debit or credit card for more. If your flight is delayed, use the time to fill your belly at their food and beverage concessions. Keep in mind there are more options available to travelers' post-security check in than there is pre-security. While restaurants like the Panini Express, New York Hot Dog & Coffee, and Wok & Roll are available to travelers before check in, bars like the Martini Bar, Medalist Bar and family favorites like McDonald's are only available to travelers who've passed through security.

Retail Shop

This is New York after all, and shopping is our cardio. In addition to duty-free shops, JFK offers something for the fashionista in everyone. Available in the airport are popular stores like Victoria's Secret, Michael Kors, and Coach. They even have upscale shops like Cartier, Bvlgari, and a Hermes Boutique that will make experiencing a flight delay fun.

Bring Your Phone Back to Life at A Charging Station

So your flight is delayed and you've killed half the time on your cell phone playing games and surfing the web. But then you get that pop-up box informing you, you only have 20% battery life left and your flight is still delayed. Not to worry. Stop by one of two charging stations located in JFK pre and post-security to charge your phone, laptop, or tablet. It's free and they even offer seating.
