You can't go to Portland, Maine without eating a lobster roll. Over the past few years, Portland has been ranked as one of the best cities to live in, to dine in, and to drink local brews. Native Mainers won't disagree. With the highest number of restaurants per capita in the United States and some of the best craft beers, there is a reason we live here, even in the coldest and snowiest months. We love our little city and the lobster.

You can find lobster on just about every menu in Portland, but only a few places have the best lobster roll in town. Lobster rolls aren't difficult to make. The name says it all. Located right on Commerical Street in the heart of the Old Port, you can't miss the Portland Lobster Company. Ranked as one of the best rolls in town, the lobster roll at Portland Lobster Company is a mix of Maine and Connecticut styles. The fresh claw and knuckle meat is served chilled with a dash of melted butter on a toasted roll topped with a little mayo and lemon.

J's Oysters

Located in a tiny building hidden away on the pier, J's Oysters is a real hidden gem that only the locals know. Either sit along the large, wooden-panel bar surrounded by local fishermen or sit outside on the patio. Oysters are their main game, but their lobster roll is just as good. The lobster roll at J's Oyster is one of the best deals in town.

Susan's Fish and Chips

Situated on Forest Avenue away from the waterfront, you wouldn't think you'd find one of the best lobster rolls in town. The converted auto shop is home to lobster traps and friendly staff. Order your roll at the counter and they will happily serve it to you at one of the picnic tables inside. Naked pieces of fresh lobster meat are served on top of warm mayo and iceberg lettuce and a toasted roll. You'll get a hefty side of fries so bring your appetite.

Eventide Oyster Co.

Eventide Oyster Co. a hip new restaurant popular amongst the locals and tourists alike. Famous for their large oyster and drink menus, their lobster roll has a different twist. Brushed with brown butter vinaigrette and served on a Chinese steamed bun, this lobster roll will have you craving another in no time.

Becky's Diner

Most people go to Becky's Diner for breakfast, but their lobster roll is worth the stop, too. If you're looking for a real Maine lobster roll, you'll find it at Becky's. Their lobster roll is stuffed with a quarter pound of fresh-picked lobster meat tossed in a little mayo on a grilled roll. And, you might even get a glimpse of Taylor Swift or Micheal Phelps who has been spotted at Becky's in the prior years.
