Best Music Venues to Watch Local Bands in Philadelphia

Philadelphia is legendary for its local music scene dating back to the Colonial Era. Whether it was classical music, opera, jazz or R&B, there were close to 100 musical venues. While the number of venues is currently not quite that large, there is still a vibrant local music scene with plenty of venues to showcase talent.

Johnnie Brenda's
This venue is located in the Fishtown section and supports local bands, local beers and locally produced menu items. The music hall features a balcony, which is rare for a small venue, and is designed like a social hall with turn of the century elements reminiscent of a burlesque theater. Fillmore Philly
This legendary music venue in Fishtown was recently renovated into an elegant hall that holds a capacity of 2,500 and is 25,000 square feet. There is also a smaller venue within the club called The Foundry which holds 450 people. There are two beer and small batch liquor lounges, the VIP lounge The Circle Bar, which also serves food, and the much larger Ajax Hall. Some events are all ages. Union Transfer
This is a general admission venue with limited seating in the balcony and holds a capacity of 2,000. There are three full bars located throughout the venue along with snack stands.
