Keeping Up With the British Royal Family - in Seattle

Buckingham Palace may be in need of repairs these days but not the house at Seattle Repertory Theatre. With its latest production, "King Charles III," Seattle Rep sets its sights on the Royal Family and provides enough twists and turns that could keep pace with the best (or worst) of Britain's fabled tabloids.

We all love Her Majesty the Queen, but everyone knows that Prince Charles has been chomping at the bit to take his place on the throne. And so, as the play's title suggests, Prince Charles finally gets his shot when the Queen suddenly passes away.

Ascendency should be smooth, right? Tell that to the rest of the Royal Family. The familiar characters of the monarchy we love and can't seem to get enough of are all front and center (and often behind the scenes, scheming) – Camilla, Prince William and Kate, Prince Harry, and the Prime Minister for good measure.

Conceit, betrayal, loyalty, divisiveness, heartbreak are all wrapped up in this Olivier Award-winning play. It's timely and it's all good fun, Prince Harry wouldn't have it any other way.

If you want to get a glimpse in to what a post-reigning monarch of the United Kingdom future might look like, swing by Seattle Rep's production of "King Charles III" and see whose Royal head will ultimately don the Crown.

"King Charles III" plays at Seattle Repertory Theatre through December 18.
