8 Denver restaurants for the drunken night owl

With a plethora of dive bars, nightclubs and swanky lounges, it's no surprise that Denver churns out drunken fools every weekend. Once the booze stops flowing however, hunger strikes at the stroke of late night, so if you're looking for some top-notch drunk food in the Mile High City, these 8 spots should do the trick.

Now there are two things that are required in a restaurant to gain a reputation of "best drunk food." First, an establishment must cater to the late-night crowd, who are the drunken sloths seeking greasy refuge after drinking their last libation right at the dreaded sound of "last call." And secondly, the food is required to be greasy, easy to handle and filling enough to soak up the booze in your belly. Every Denver establishment on this list meets both requirements, easily catering to the drunken night owl.

1. Pete's Kitchen
Head to Pete's Kitchen any time of day or night to get your drunk food fix. Pete's Kitchen, the location off Colfax, is open 24 hours, making it an ideal spot to pull that all-nighter with the whole squad. Diner food is legit here, but the gyro will make any drunkie drool.

2. Jerusalem Restaurant
With its proximity to the University of Denver, Jerusalem Restaurant pleases drunken coeds with Middle Eastern cuisine until the wee hours of the morning. From Sunday through Thursday, get a gyro as late as 4 a.m., but on Friday and Saturday, grab a bite until 5 a.m. The falafel gyro is a fan favorite here but so is the hummus for those seeking a lighter option.

3. Tacos Rapidos
This list of drunken Denver foods wouldn't be complete without Tacos Rapidos. This Mexican-food mecca has a 24-hour drive-thru, so you don't even have to get out of a car, driven by a sober designated driver of course, to get in a taco-induced coma. The Colorado Burrito is highly recommended. However if you are wanting more grease for your buck, the carne asada fries are worth the heart attack risk.

4. Ian's Pizza
Pizza is probably on the mind of 80 percent of the drunken population. Honestly, what could go wrong with cheese and bread? At Ian's Pizza, single slices and whole pizzas are sold to the late-night crowd until 2:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Ian's serves up regular pizza favorites along with some interesting toppings. The Mac-n-Cheese pizza is a signature dish, which mixes two great drunk foods together in a winning combination.

5. Meadowlark Kitchen
Meadowlark Kitchen is a little bit different than the other restaurants on this list. It's a bit more expensive but is open late until 2 a.m. However, the late-night menu offered here is drunk food worthy. The Meadowlark Burger is the perfect snack for the highly intoxicated, since it's complete with an onion ring, candied bacon and dripping with cheddar cheese. Other late-night snacks offered here are also full of the grease to keep your wasted body running, such as the fried chicken nuggets, onion rings and waffle fries.

6. Euclid Hall Bar & Kitchen
Find drool-worthy foods at Euclid Hall Bar and Kitchen late until 2 a.m. every night. The best thing about this restaurant is the variety of food served here, which basically caters to whatever drunk food your intoxicated body is craving. Drunk off German beer? Only a brat burger at Euclid's will satisfy that drunken monster. Or maybe you're more in the mood for chicken and waffles or even carnitas french fries.

7. My Brother's Bar
If you're in the mood for classic drunk food, such as burgers and fries, My Brother's Bar is the spot for you. Your drunken taste buds will love the condiment tray, loaded with any and all toppings. However, the cure for the wasted and confused is the JCB Burger, which has cream cheese and jalapenos. Make sure to stumble in before closing time at 2 a.m.

8. Two Fisted Mario's Pizza
When you turn into a drunken zombie, mindlessly munching on pizza seems to be the only thing you are capable of. Two Fisted Mario's Pizza serves pizza by the slice or whole pizza until 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
