Forget lovers, Paris is for the single ladies

Ah, Paris. The city of lights. The city of love. The city that most girls dream of visiting one day.
But what if you don't have a loved one to go with?

I'll let you in on a little secret. When it comes to Paris, you're well off without a significant other holding your hand every step of the way. Paris may be romantic, but it's also a girl's fairytale dream. So ditch your beau, pack your suitcase and indulge in the magic of Paris on your own.

Eat Your Heart Out
Paris was made for foodies. From cheese to baguettes, traditional French dishes to the simple crepe and don't even get me started on the pastries. Trust me, you will be doing a lot of eating and you do not (and should not!) feel guilty for it. A must try are the macarons from Christophe Roussel, located at the bottom of the hill of the Sacre Coeur Basilica. Grab a box and head to the Basilica to enjoy a view of the city. Whether you choose to eat them all in two minutes, two hours, or two days, nobody needs to know!

Shop till You Drop
Even if your pockets aren't lined with hundred dollar bills, shopping in Paris is a must, even if it's just the window variety. From world-renowned designers to trendy boutiques, local artisans and more, you will find something that catches your eye. Even the cheap souvenir shops in Paris seem more elegant than others around the world.

For the ultimate Paris shopping experience, be sure to take a stroll down the famous Champs-Elysées and take a peek at the elegant window displays. Even if you don't end up buying anything, you will be rewarded with the perfect view of the Arc de Triomphe at the end (it's free!).

Play Princess in the Nearby Versailles
An easy train ride away is the historic palace of Versailles; with golden gates, shimmering chandeliers and endless gardens. If you have ever wanted to play princess (let's be honest, you know you want to!) this is the place to do it. Just behave yourself and remember, the last 'princess' here had her head chopped off.

Get Wonderfully Lost
Paris is perfect for getting lost because wherever you look there is always something beautiful or interesting to see. My all time favourite Parisian neighbourhood is Montmartre. The cobblestone streets, boutiques and cafes make it feel like the 'real' Paris that you imagine from books and movies. Of course, it has its tourist traps as well (you could create a drinking game based on how many times you get asked by an artist if you want your portrait drawn), but if you are willing to put down the map and just explore, you will love it.

Word of advice: the bottom of this area is the 'pink light district' of Paris, which includes the Moulin Rouge. It's not necessarily unsafe, but you will probably feel more comfortable walking around that part during the day rather than in the evening or night.

Paris may be the city of light and love, but that doesn't mean it is reserved for couples. There are so many fun and girly things to do here that it makes sense for a solo female traveller to visit alone. Besides, who knows; you might find a cute local while you are there and get to experience the best of both worlds!
